Photographing the Graduation Dinner
The Student Bar Association (which I'm now president of) couldn't afford a professional photographer to take photos of the Class of 2009 graduation dinner, so I volunteered. I offered to do it for free, but everyone insisted on paying me. It was an offer I couldn't refuse.
When I first got there, I was really nervous because I didn't know how to act. Do I get in people's faces, or stand back and let them come to me? I didn't want to be rude and obnoxious, but I wanted to get some great shots. As more and more people arrived, I became more comfortable and I think my pictures got better.
I tried really hard to take photos of everyone there, but many people didn't want their picture taken and made weird faces that ruined the photo. And some people loved the attention, so I naturally got more pictures of them. I also learned that photographing people is not easy because people blink, people walk away, and people are unpredictable.
Overall, I think I did a decent job. It would be fun to get more jobs taking photos because more practice makes for better photos.
The whole set is here, but here are some of my favorites.

I love the negative space in this one.

My favorite shot because I caught the right moment.
